Tech Bay Area Advocates Women in Tech Launch: Scaling Up

Tech Bay Area Advocates is delighted to launch its Women in Tech working group with an insightful panel discussion and opportunity to connect with fellow entrepreneurs, investors and advocates for women in the technology sector. The panel discussion will feature industry insights from entrepreneurs and investors and will focus on guiding entrepreneurs toward success in developing, scaling up and exiting a business.

The TBAA Women in Tech Working Group is a collective of cross-industry professionals focused on increasing gender balance and equality in the tech industry and is committed to collaboration, education and action in reducing the funding gap, mentoring female entrepreneurs, advocating for pay equity, unconscious bias training, combating gender-based discrimination and sexual harassment in the workplace, promoting gender equality in executive roles or corporate boards and advancing female STEM education and career opportunities.

PANELISTS

Michaela Jamelska
Director of Global Business Operations at Unmanned Life
Michaela Jamelska, Director of Global Business Operations, is a part of Unmanned Life’s founding team. Michaela studied at University of Roehampton in London International Law and International Relations; International Management, Project Management and Technology & Innovation at Stanford University. She also holds diplomas in Technology and Human Rights from European Center for Democratization, Diploma in Politics and Foreign Affairs from French University ULCO and Silicon Valley Innovation Academy Certificate from Stanford University. Michaela conducted multiple researches on technology and society in the UK and US. She worked at European Innovation Summit in European Parliament, in Central European Strategy Council working on technology and innovation projects and in London based biotechnology and life science management consultancy. Michaela is a youth delegate representing the United Kingdom at Annual International Human Rights Summit in United Nations and has become recently a human rights ambassador.
Joe Teno
CEO of Athleta and Co-Founder Qorkit
Work: Bachelor’s in Biology, Master’s in Business. 13 years at L.L.Bean, 2 at TravelSmith, 10 at Athleta, and 5 at QOR. Was Athleta’s CEO when acquired by Gap, Inc. in late 2008. Stayed on another 3 years as a Gap, Inc.’s Brand President to help the Athleta team transition and to lead the design/execution of Athleta retail. Signed the first 7 Athleta leases and opened their first 2 stores, including the flagship in SF. Activity: 8 marathons (6 in NYC), Mt. Rainier, Outward Bound, Army Special Forces, French Commando School, 3 - 100 mile Canadian Ski Marathons, 9 – 200 mile relays, a quarter of a million miles motorcycling throughout the West, a ton of sailing, sea kayaking, canoeing, hiking, biking, and about a thousand single track runs in Pt. Reyes. Wilderness Medical certificate, Water Safety Instructor, private pilot, photographer, cook, and ballroom dancer. Community: Race Director Maine Marathon. Zynara Ng - Moderator
Public Speaking Coach - Google
Zynara Ng works as a Video Producer at Google to provide educational resources for students in computer science. She is also a self-growth speaker and public speaking coach to help individuals find their voices and in particular, she is passionate about helping women discover their voice and presence. She works with non-profits, startups, and coaches clients for events like Google I/O and Google Cloud Next. She is also the co-founder of Compassion Crew, an organization with the mission of cultivating compassion into the workplace.
Susan Mason
Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Aligned Partners
Susan has 28 years of operating, management, and venture capital experience. Prior to co-founding Aligned Partners in 2011, she spent 15 years with ONSET Ventures, an early stage venture capital firm with $1 billion under management located in Menlo Park, California. Susan has specialized in investing in the information technology area, specifically communications and security. As an investor and board member, Susan has played a pivotal role in the development of companies including Securent, Alteon, Gadzoox, SilverTail Systems, Actineon, and many others.
